Mel is interested in human skeletal growth and development, particularly rapid morphological changes that occur during the adolescent growth spurt. Her current research involves a comprehensive characterization of the timing and tempo of a spurt in skeletal maturation, including morphological changes that signify its onset, peak, and cessation, as well as potential differences between normal children who mature earlier or later than average reported guidelines.
